LIV Golf is packing up.Â
The professional men's golf tour, founded in 2021 as a competitor to the PGA Tour, announced it is officially closing up shop after months of speculation over its draining finances. Â
According to a Nov. 5 announcement on the league's website, in April CEO Scott O'Neil and other LIV Golf leadership began working with independent advisors to “identify the best, value-maximizing path forward for the Company and its stakeholders.â€
However, “in light of the current circumstances,†the announcement noted, “we believe shifting toward an orderly wind-down is the most responsible path forward for the League at this time. The dedication of LIV Golf's players, employees, partners, and fans made everything the League accomplished possible.â€
In his own statement, O'Neil reflected on building the league up from the rough.Â
“LIV Golf was fun, demanding, inspiring, at times challenging—but always rewarding,â€Â he said. “We created memories that I hope will inspire a new generation of fans to follow, play, and fall in love with this great game.â€
And though the league is headed towards a wind down, the announcement did note the company will remain open to and consider any “value-maximum alternativesâ€Â that might arise.Â
