Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez exchanged vows at their new £30 million ($40.7 million) estate near Lisbon in an intimate ceremony attended by just four witnesses and their children.

Cristiano’s devoted mother Dolores Aveiro and his three siblings Hugo, Elma and Katia were absent from the private civil ceremony, which took place at 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Georgina’s sister Ivana, Cristiano’s longtime friend Miguel Paixao, and a Spanish couple identified as Jose Rodriguez Sangil and his wife Monica Goncalez Martinez served as the sole witnesses.

Registrar Maria Manuel Ferreira de Campos Folhadela de Oliveira made the journey from the northern Portuguese city of Porto to Cascais to preside over the ceremony.

The high-profile couple, who wed exactly one year to the day after publicly announcing their engagement on social media, have chosen to keep their pre-marital assets separate despite formalizing their decade-long romance.

They signed a prenuptial agreement to establish their property arrangements on August 10, one day prior to the ceremony, at a public notary’s office in Lisbon. Ronaldo’s representatives confirmed earlier this week that the soccer star and his longtime partner married on August 11 in an “intimate” ceremony in Cascais, after the couple shared photographs of themselves wearing their wedding rings on their respective Instagram accounts, as per The Mirror.

The news followed false speculation that the couple was set to tie the knot at Funchal Cathedral on Cristiano’s home island of Madeira on Saturday. No information had surfaced regarding the exact location in Cascais where they had married or who was in attendance at the ceremony beyond their children.

Overnight, well-regarded Portuguese publication Jornal de Notícias released a copy of the marriage certificate revealing the ceremony took place at Cristiano’s expansive custom-built mansion in the prestigious residential neighborhood of Quinta da Marina.

The document also confirmed that so few guests were invited that there appeared to be no place for Cristiano’s mother, who subsequently gave the union her blessing by posting a heart emoticon on her son’s Instagram in response to his wedding announcement, nor any of his extended family beyond his children. Jose Rodriguez Sangil was identified as a Spanish jeweler by the Portuguese press.

The marriage certificate listed Cristiano’s full name and age of 41, along with his birthplace and his parents’ names, including his late father, Jose Dinis. The same information was recorded for 32-year-old Georgina, born in the Argentinian capital, Buenos Aires, and referenced by her full name of Georgina Luisa Rodriguez Hernandez.

Both will retain their pre-marriage surnames, in contrast to the UK, where women typically adopt their husband’s last name upon marriage. The marriage certificate was recorded as number 1,493 of this year, though it appears to have been registered at Porto’s Registry Office rather than Cascais, which is the municipality where the ceremony took place.

Cristiano and Georgina have since returned to Saudi Arabia, where the Portuguese star plays his club soccer for Al Nassr, as they prepare for the upcoming season.
