West Ham urge fans not to sing anti-Palestine song

West Ham have asked fans not to repeat an “offensive and divisive chant†that was heard during last weekend's draw at Burnley.

The song contains lyrics that claim the Hammers' Israeli winger Manor Solomon “hates Palestineâ€.

Solomon, a recent arrival from Tottenham, has caused controversy in recent years with his staunchly pro-Israel messages on social media, one of which suggested Palestinian groups have “killed their own people and blamed Israelâ€.

In September 2025, a United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry concluded that Israeli authorities and security forces had committed genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

‘Equality, equity, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of West Ham'

West Ham host London rivals Charlton on Saturday and a club statement requested the chant relating to Solomon is not sung.

It read: “The club is aware of an offensive and divisive chant, containing an anti-Palestine message, being sung by a section of away supporters during our opening EFL Championship match at Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

“We understand that singing and chanting is a traditional and deeply-embedded part of the matchday experience. We encourage our supporters to sing loud and proud about their football club and the players wearing the claret and blue shirt – but never in a way that creates division or causes offence among fellow fans.

“Equality, equity, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the club and we believe in the power of football to unite and bring people together.

“We expect those who represent the club – be that players, staff, officials or supporters – to share those values and ensure that, regardless of individual backgrounds or beliefs, we are as our name says: United. Let's make sure our support is something to be proud of, and the envy of all who face us.

“Everyone at the club is very much looking forward to our first home league fixture of the new season on Saturday, and seeing the Claret and Blue faithful continue to support the team with pride, passion and respect.â€

Leeds also requested Solomon song is ditched

West Ham suffered relegation from the Premier League last season and opened their Championship campaign with a 2-2 draw at Burnley last Sunday with Solomon among the goalscorers.

Their game with Charlton has already been declared a 62,500 sell-out.

It is not the first time the chant relating to Solomon has been an issue. Last year, when Solomon was on loan at Leeds, the West Yorkshire club threatened to ban any fan found to have participated in the song after it was heard repeatedly during games.
